| What does "HVAC" mean? |
| | A common abbreviation which stands for Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning. "HVAC" is often used when referring to the industry that manufactures, distributes, installs and services products designed to heat, cool, ventilate and filter indoor environments in both residential homes and commercial buildings. |
| What is "NATE" and why is it so important? |
| | NATE is an acronym for North American Technical Excellence. It represents the highest achievement for installation and service technicians in the HVAC industry. NATE exams reflect a consensus opinion of what technicians need to know to effectively service and install today's sophisticated HVAC systems.
(Surveys back up what certified technicians have known for years - NATE-certified technicians have fewer callbacks that technicians who are not NATE-certified) |
| When I buy Air Conditioning, must it be the same brand as my furnace? |
| | No, not at all. The furnace is only used to distribute the cool air produced by the air conditioner. When the thermostat causes the air conditioner to turn on, it also makes the furnace blower turn on (without heat). The furnace inhales warm air in the home and passes it over the cool air conditioner evaporator coil thereby enabling cool air to be distributed throughout the ductwork. At Thermal Flo, we carry three major national brands (Lennox, Coleman, Ruud) and can perform installations regardless of the furnace brand. |
| Does my home need surge protection for the HVAC system? |
| | When the HVAC did not have PC boards surge protection was not needed, but when manufacturers started using electronics, surge protection is needed for protection against lightning. |
| Why should I replace my existing heating or air conditioning system? |
| | Since today's systems are as much as 60% more efficient than systems manufactured as little as ten years ago, homes and businesses that have systems that are old, inefficient or in need of repair should strongly consider acquiring a new system. |
| What do I need to know about filters?
|
| | Most homes with forced-air furnaces have a standard furnace filter made from loosely woven spun-glass fibers designed to keep it and its ductwork clean. Unfortunately, they don't improve indoor air quality. That takes a media filter, which sits in between the main return duct and the blower cabinet. However, a media filter, which has a tight weave can restrict a furnace's ability to blow air through the house. For answers to your filter questions, contact your heating and cooling specialists at Thermal Flo. |
| How important is Duct-Cleaning |
| | A maze of heating and air conditioning ducts runs inside the walls and floors of your home. As the supply ducts blow air into the rooms, return ducts inhale airborne dust and suck it back into the blower. Add moisture to this mixture and you have a breeding ground for allergy-inducing molds, mites and bacteria. Many filters commonly used today can't keep dust and debris from streaming into the air. Over time sizable accumulations can form.
Sad to say, most homeowners don't have duct-cleaning services performed. This is a mistake, and can be costly to your families health and well being, plus can inhibit the efficiency of your heating and cooling system.
Themal Flo specializes in Duct-Cleaning. A no obligation call can ease your concerns and give you the information you need to make a decision on whether or not you need duct-cleaning services. |
